BIOGRAPHY


Born July 3rd, 1957, in Vienna (Austria). Lived 1981-2003 in France. Married. One child.

1962-1967 Lycée français de Vienne, Vienna

1967-1975 Theresianum (college and high school), Vienna

1976-1988 studied history, philosophy and history of art in Vienna, Innsbruck and Paris. Doctorate in political history, University of Innsbruck, Austria 1988 (Artists in the 1848-Revolution in Paris).

1978-1982 assistant in avant-garde galeries in Austria (Galerie nächst St. Stephan, Galerie Krinzinger, Galerie Insam) (exhibition-assistant with Vito Acconci, Joseph Beuys, Robert Filliou, Jochen Gerz, Meret Oppenheim, Mario Merz, etc., assistant at Austrian participations in Europe, Milano 1981/Kowanz-Graf – Garouste – Schnabel, Cologne « Westkunst » 1981, Bienial of Venice 1978-1984).

1981-1986 studied philosophy in Paris, with Gilles Deleuze (1981-1986) and Michel Foucault (1981-1984), Jean Baudrillard, Jean-François Lyotard and Michel Serres.

Since 1982 independent art critic and independent curator. 23 books published, 39 exhibitions curated (beside the exhibitions curated for the Austrian minister of Culture, 1991-1993, and the exhibition program of the ERBAN-Fine Art School of Nantes, France).

1991-1999 french correspondent for the art magazine ART. das kunstmagazin, Hamburg.

1991-1993 official curator appointed by the Austrian minister for Education and Cultre (organized 186 international exhibitions with Austrian artists and an invitation programm for international art critics and curators to Austria).

Since 1994 curator for museum in progress, Vienna.

Since 1996 scientific assistant at Fondation Hans Hartung-Anna Eva Bergmann, Antibes.

1997/98 curator of the exhibition 100 Years Wiener Secession, Wiener Secession, April-June 1998.

1997/98 curator (with Barbara Vanderlinden and Maria Lind) of manifesta 2, the second edition of the new european itinerant biennial for contemporary art, Luxembourg, June-October 1998

1998-1999 director of studies of the international post-graduate program for young artists at ERBAN - Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts, Nantes, France
